Volunteers Make Waves: Amy Chapman’s Nine-Year Journey of Purpose and Grace

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme—“Volunteers Make Waves”—honors those who quietly but powerfully ripple through communities, leaving lasting impact in their wake. At REST, we’re celebrating volunteers like Amy Chapman, whose nine-year journey of service has touched lives in big and small ways.

Amy’s story is not one of a single role or moment—it’s a mosaic of connection, creativity, and compassion. Over nearly a decade, she’s worn many hats:

  • Hosting clothing swaps

  • Delivering carloads of donations

  • Organizing prayer walks and soul-care sessions

  • Rallying youth to write encouragement cards

  • Preparing meals for the drop-in center

  • Creating art alongside survivors

  • Educating others about trafficking

  • Recruiting fellow volunteers

And through it all, Amy says it’s never felt like a sacrifice.

“My involvement has shifted with each season of life,” she shares. “It’s been shaped by my interests, availability, and the people around me. Every small act has been a way to make a meaningful difference.”

Amy’s connection to REST has transformed her—not just as a volunteer, but as a person.

“REST—their staff and clients—has profoundly shaped who I am. They’ve changed the way I see the world and taught me what it truly means to extend grace—to others, and to myself.”

That impact has flowed into the next wave of her journey: building a nonprofit of her own. With a mission that naturally aligns with REST, Amy sees her future as part of the same movement toward freedom, healing, and hope.

To Amy—thank you for the countless ways you’ve shown up, served, and made waves in the lives of survivors and the heart of our community.
