Gathering in Community and Growing in Hope

April at REST created meaningful moments of joy, healing, and connection for the women staying in shelter. Throughout the month, guests and staff shared experiences that fostered community, encouraged healing, and made space for hope.

Easter was one especially meaningful time together. Guests woke up on Easter morning to thoughtful Easter baskets, creating a joyful and special start to the day. Later, guests and staff gathered around the table to share a full Easter meal together with chicken, salmon, greens, sweet potatoes, and pie. More than just a meal, it was an opportunity to sit, feast, and enjoy time together in community. Guests expressed how meaningful it was to share that experience alongside staff in a warm and welcoming environment.

April also marked the official launch of our Empowerment Group, led by Dr. A on Wednesdays. This group has already become a meaningful benefit for guests by providing an intentional space for healing, reflection, and personal growth. Through guided support and conversation, guests are being encouraged as they continue moving toward freedom, safety, and hope.

The month also included moments of fun and lighthearted connection including hosting a banana split party. It was a simple but meaningful way to bring joy into the space, build connection, and create shared memories together. Moments like these may seem small, but they help foster trust, belonging, and community, all important parts of the healing journey.

As we reflect on April, we are reminded that healing often happens in both the big and small moments. Sometimes it looks like gathering around a table for a holiday meal. Sometimes it looks like meaningful conversation in a support group. Sometimes it looks like laughter over banana splits.

At REST, creating spaces where survivors feel safe, seen, and cared for can open the door to healing and hope. We are grateful to have witnessed these moments throughout April and look forward to all that May will bring.
